I thought about it, I read, I prayed, I listened. I attended Zoom events from BOTH candidates. I sincerely kept an open mind and was willing to give Trump a chance because I was fed up with the Democrats. I planned to attend Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden and am glad I stayed away. I told people I was attending for journalistic purposes and not out of support. I DID NOT LIE about that. But in my disgust of Democrats, I still wanted to give Trump a chance. So many thoughts filled my brain.
Maybe the liberal media was lying.
Maybe I’d see a different Trump than what blue media was presenting.
No matter what I did, said, or thought, I could not delude myself into thinking that Trump was the right choice. Him SUPPOSEDLY being against gender identity ideology is not enough. Many of his stances would negatively impact my life. Here are my thoughts on some of his ideas, as mentioned on his website:
Education - He wants to get rid of teacher tenure and implement merit pay. We MUST keep tenure and pay based on years of experience, not so-called merit. There are too many ways to manipulate outcomes to make a merit system viable. He also championed the 1776 Commission, which promoted patriotic education. I also hate how they connect teaching about race with gender identity ideology. I do not want my kids indoctrinated with so-called patriotism in the same way I don’t want them indoctrinated with gender ideology. Black people lived with fascism, while White Americans had freedom and independence. There is nothing at all redeeming in my eyes about the founding fascists. Schools should not lose funding for teaching history accurately, and teachers should not lose their licenses for the same.
Police- I am 100% against police immunity. The taking of a human life should not be reduced to an oops. Any society that allows cops to be above the law or make “fatal mistakes” is dangerous.
Deportations- He boasts that he will implement the biggest deportation in history. Welp, you can call me a reverse sexist, misandrist, whatever the heck you want to call me. I feel that women, except under extreme circumstances, should be allowed to stay in the United States and given a path to citizenship. Why? I don’t want women and girls sent back to dangerous countries overun by dangerous gangs.
Marriage- I'm not sorry, but marriage should not be valued any more than singleness. We need a society that supports and encourages women to thrive so that marriage is a choice and not a necessity.
Lastly, I am NOT at all convinced that Trump will do anything about gender ideology. He says that he will stop the indoctrination in schools and ban men claiming a female gender identity from women’s sports. Don’t get me wrong, I agree. He also claimed that Kamala Harris wants to provide “transgender prisoners” with sex changes on taxpayer’s dimes. According to Harris, that was a “Trump rule,” and she just supported the law. It really doesn’t make a difference if she personally supported it if the Trump’s administration championed it. If I’m not mistaken, Obama actually started this “sex change benefit” but Trump seemed to have no problem with it. Take a look:
Not only that, but as recently as 2023, Trump “respects pronouns” at about 1:25-1:29 in. He refers to Caitlyn Jenner as “she”:
At about 2:30, he’s not entirely clear if he’s changed or not. Yes, he’s changed; no, he hasn’t, yes, he has. Whatever the case, he was deceptive about taxpayer-funded sex changes for “transgender” prisoners being the work of Kamala Harris.
I strongly considered voting for a third party but could not find enough about the candidates. So, I voted for Kamala Harris and, for the most part, republican candidates down the ballot. It’s no secret that we have a system of checks and balances AND that a president does not make laws. Congress makes laws, while a president enforces laws. I proudly voted against Himes and Murphy. I feel it’s better to have Harris in office with a republican congress (hopefully) challenging Harris on gender ideology. Who knows, it’s entirely possible she is only trying to get elected and may surprise us.
If Harris loses, don’t waste your time giving me a “na na your candidate lost” because I won’t be upset. The democrats would be at fault, not me, not White women voters, or anyone else. The failure would belong solely to them. Don’t bother ranting and raving at me that you voted for Trump. It will go in one ear and out the other. No matter who is in office, I’ll still have to advocate for women’s rights. I do believe the fight would be more dangerous under a Trump administration but we would have to fight nonetheless. If Harris wins, I will still have to fight. So I did not vote for my favorite candidate because she/he did not exist this election. I voted for what I feel is the safety of advocates for women and girls.
I don't think I can bring myself to do the same thing, but I completely respect your choice. This election is agonizing!
Lorraine, I respect your decision and angst here. I believe Trump will defend sex-based rights for women. So I voted for him. Biden-Harris decreed that Title IX would include gender and not be based on sex. This should be unconstitutional--but who knows--and it will take years for that to get through the courts. So the President has real power to drive an agenda which is very harmful to girls and women. I get it -- that the Dems are strong on pro-choice. But that has now gone to the states and it is highly unlikely that there is any chance for federal legislation. I hope I am right about Trump because if Harris is elected, I fear the total abolition of sex-based rights for women.
